We had a busy week packing up many of the artifacts to be installed in the new SLU exhibits. I think we are all excited to be working with the artifacts for the new museum!

October is National Fire Prevention Month, when local fire departments team up with communities to promote fire safety and prevention. Here at MOHAI, where we explore the story and significance of the Great Seattle Fire of 1889, we know just how important fire safety and prevention is!

Although the Great Seattle Fire happened on June 6th, it has only been recently that two Great Seattle Fire items have come to the Museum.
Seattle’s Great Fire began in a basement woodshop, when a worker threw water on an overheating pot of glue. The fire spread very quickly because most of Seattle’s downtown buildings were built of wood. This photo shows the right side of a mural painted by artist Rudolph Zallinger for the Museum of History & Industry depicting this pivotal event in the city’s history.
